Festivo-Porkka Group has published its first sustainability report – “Progress starts with measurement”

Festivo-Porkka Group has released its first-ever sustainability report.

The report outlines the key sustainability actions, indicators and development areas of the Festivo-Porkka Group for the year 2024. It includes data on the carbon footprint, energy and material usage, occupational safety, ethical business conduct, and social responsibility.

For the first time, Festivo-Porkka Group has compiled a unified carbon accounting, and the report presents a target for achieving carbon neutrality in Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Sustainability is also embedded in the product development – especially in the use of natural refrigerants, ease of maintenance, and energy efficiency.

The aim of the Group remains the same as previously stated – to become the leading refrigeration company in Northern Europe in terms of sustainability.

The report offers a transparent view of the company’s current sustainability position and the next steps to come.
– We are frontrunners in sustainability within our industry, and we are more transparent in both our goals and the data we publish, says Hanna Miettinen, CEO of Festivo-Porkka Group.

According to Miettinen, sustainability is not just a target – it involves continuous action and progress.
– In addition to environmental objectives, one of our key goals is to be a safe workplace for our employees.

Group has worked consistently on sustainability over several years. In 2024, Porkka Finland received a Bronze rating in the EcoVadis assessment.

Sustainability expert Katri Inkinen describes the report as a concrete tool for continuous improvement:
– Before this comprehensive sustainability report, we had no real overview of many emission-related issues. With data available, development can now be guided more effectively.

The Group does not yet hold the ISO 45001 certificate for occupational health and safety, but investment in safety is planned for the autumn, and the standard will be part of future development work.

Sustainability reporting supports EcoVadis certification process

The report was prepared according to the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME), a framework used in the EU for sustainability reporting by small and medium-sized enterprises. According to Inkinen, VSME was a natural choice since Festivo-Porkka Group is no longer subject to the heavier CSRD reporting requirements.

The report has practical value: it supports the requirements of the EcoVadis sustainability rating, which demands documented evidence on topics such as fair pay, energy consumption and safety. The report can now be used directly to meet many of those criteria.

Creating the first report was not a simple task. Inkinen describes the process as gathering pieces of information from various sources, including foreign subsidiaries and different factory locations. The most demanding task was the carbon footprint calculation, which was conducted at Group level for the first time.
– It was a valuable learning process. We discovered that some aspects lacked documentation, even when practices were in place. Data storage and tracking have now been integrated into our processes, making future reporting smoother.

Sustainability reflected in refrigeration equipment production

The publication of the report has not changed the direction of product development, as sustainability principles have already been part of it. Features such as energy efficiency, maintainability, and long product lifespan have been long-standing priorities.
– We have developed our products with environmental concerns in mind for a long time already, Inkinen says.

During 2025, all Porkka equipment will fully transition to natural refrigerants – a major environmental milestone, now also documented in the report.
– Sharing our targets publicly creates positive pressure to follow through on our commitments.

Next sustainability report scheduled for spring 2026.

The current report covers the year 2024 and was published after the summer holiday period. Going forward, the publication will be scheduled earlier in the year – the next report is expected in spring 2026, aligned with the financial year-end.
– Our goal is to have the next report ready by February or March, Inkinen says.
