Sustainability and energy efficiency are becoming increasingly important factors when selecting professional refrigeration solutions. That is why all Porkka cold and freezer rooms with integrated refrigeration units will from now on be supplied with R290 refrigerant. R290, also known as propane, offers a more environmentally friendly alternative without compromising performance or reliability, thanks to its GWP value of less than 3.
The development of our refrigeration equipment, manufactured in Kemijärvi, Finnish Lapland, is part of Porkka’s long-term commitment to a more sustainable future and increasingly efficient refrigeration systems.
What changed?
- Until now, refrigeration units for larger cold rooms were designed using R455A refrigerant, which has a GWP value of less than 150.
- With this upgrade, we can now also deliver our higher-capacity refrigeration units in an environmentally friendly way, thanks to a new dual-circuit design.

- Power requirements of the refrigeration units
- Cooling capacity of the refrigeration units
- Standard room layouts and floor plans
